JACK DYLAN

Vancouver Welcomes Visionary Poster Artist
Friday, February 8, 2008 - 8:00pm

Jack Dylan is a Montreal based artist who for the past three years has been designing posters for concerts and music festivals such as Pop Montreal (QC), Sled Island (AB) and Le Guess Who (Utrech, The Netherlands). His artwork is a familiar adornment of Montreal’s artsy mile-end neighbourhood, and he’s also a co-founder of” Friendship Cove;” a large residence and studio space for musicians and artists that also transforms into a venue space for live music and events. Jack’s partner in creating the Cove, is Graham Van Pelt of the band Miracle Fortress (who’s latest Album “Five Roses,” was recorded at his home studio there, and nominated for the Polaris Prize in 2007). By creating his own ammature venue space, Dylan was able to gain exposure for his artwork through advertising the events that were taking place at his own house, and has built a portfolio of almost 200 show posters for bands like The Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom, CSS, Sunset Rubdown, and The Hidden Camera . Common facets of Jacks work are, a self deprecating look at hipster culture, self conscious super heroes, and the occasional cat. - — This upcoming show entitled “VANCOUVER WELCOMES JACK DYLAN, Visionary Poster Artist!” (with it’s own poster a spoof on vintage Chinese propaganda posters from the cultural revolution; hence the self praising sentiment of the title.) will be exhibited at Little Mountain Studios, and features a large selection of Dylan’s work. With all prints are on sale for only $10 or less through out the duration of the show. (Dylan himself is unable to be present for the opening.)

Opens 8pm, Friday Feb 8th - Runs until Feb 28th 2008.
